Kumbh/kumbha mela and the Naga Sadhu :

In 2017, Kumbh/Kumbha mela was added to the UNESCO'S List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Kumbh Mela is one of the biggest Hindu festivals which is celebrated every three years. It's a pilgrimage that devotees take in the hope of washing away their past sins. The Kumbh Mela has the largest gathering as lakhs of devotees come from all over the country. It is celebrated in a cycle of approximately 12 years, to celebrate every revolution Brihaspati completes, at four river-bank pilgrimage sites: Allahabad, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain.

The Kumbh Mela is the only time of the year during which they come down to the plains and it is therefore, an occasion of great significance to them. It is also the only time of the year when one can become a Naga Sadhu. The Naga Sadhus are Shaivites (the followers of the Lord Shiva) and they live in the Himalayas. Get to Interact with Naga Sadhus As the kumbh Mela is visited by huge crowds of Naga Sadhus, there is a high probability that you may get an opportunity to interact and know their way of living and rituals performed during the whole fair. Smeared with ash, these sadhus are no less than an attraction point for this mela itself.
