These days generally when people say software update, they mean a new Android version update rather than security software updates. So it's technically a software update but the regular viewers categorize it differently.

Go in settings of your phone and then click on software update and then click on download and install then you will be able to update the software of your phone manually if any software update has been provided by the Samsung for the phone model which you are using.
