This issue is caused by a software error affecting GPS functionality A new software version will be included in the upcoming U OS upgrade, scheduled for early December. Updating your device to the latest software version when available is recommended to resolve this problem. • Improving Location Accuracy: To enhance GPS performance, ensure Location services are enabled in your device's settings. You can do this via Quick Settings or through Biometrics and Security settings. Additionally, enabling "Wi-Fi scanning" and "Bluetooth scanning" under "Improve Accuracy" can help. Calibrating the compass within Google Maps by making a figure 8 motion may also resolve issues with the blue dot's direction or range. • App Permissions for Location: For applications that use GPS, ensure they have the necessary location permissions. Navigate to Settings > Apps, select the problematic app, tap Permissions, and toggle on "Location." For Android 10 Q OS and later, applications require explicit permission to use GPS. It is recommended to set this to "Allow all the time" or "Allow only while using the app." • Location Not Updating or Appearing Incorrectly: Location information is determined by GPS signals or Google Network Location Provider (NLP). Accuracy can be affected by indoor environments, obstructed GPS signals, or inaccurate Wi-Fi/cell information. If the location appears based on a previous place, try checking your location outdoors in an open area. • GPS Not Updating in Background or When Screen is Off: This can occur if applications lack necessary permissions or due to Android OS power consumption policies. Ensure all relevant permissions are allowed for the app. For background usage, Android OS versions from 8.0 limit background location updates to a few times per hour. Also, check if the device is in power-saving mode, as this can affect GPS performance. Switching to "High performance" or "Optimized" mode is recommended. Exclude GPS apps from the "Sleeping apps" list in Battery settings. • Power Saving Mode Impact on GPS: When a device is in power-saving mode, GPS apps may not receive real-time data, or their services might be limited. It is recommended to set the power mode to "High performance" or "Optimized" to ensure proper GPS functionality. Disabling "Adaptive power saving" can also help if the device automatically switches to power-saving mode.
