Galaxy AGreat suggestion however
✅ Changing the side key to “Open Assistant” DOES NOT stop thieves from switching off the phone
Even if you change your side key settings:
Long-press → Assistant
Double-press → Camera
A thief can still:
1. Force power off (hardware level)
Holding the side key for 10+ seconds will ALWAYS force the device to shut down.
This bypasses Android and all settings — it’s a hardware fail-safe.
2. Use the Power Menu from lock screen
On Samsung:
Hold Volume Down + Side Key together → Power menu appears
They can turn it off
So changing the side key to assistant does NOT protect the phone from being switched off.
---
❌ Myth: “Thieves won’t be able to switch off your phone if side key = assistant”
This is NOT true.
The hardware override will still turn it off.
---
✅ If you want real protection against phone theft
There are only two things that actually help:
1. Lockdown Mode
This disables:
Fingerprint
Face unlock
Notifications
Smart Lock
And prevents thieves from unlocking the phone.
You can activate it from the power menu.
---
2. Samsung’s “Offline Finding”
This allows your phone to be found even if it is switched off.
Go to:
Settings → Biometrics & security → Find My Mobile → Offline finding (turn on)
This is the best protection Samsung offers.
---
🟢 Conclusion
Changing the side button to open the assistant is safe —
but it does not stop thieves from switching off your phone.
If you want maximum security, enable Offline Finding.
