Samsung is going with a fresh new perspective with its Galaxy A series. The company is ditching the metal unibody design and typical single and dual camera configuration and is instead trying something new. Take the Galaxy A7, for example which comes with a triple camera system on the back. The company is now following that up with the Galaxy A9 (2018) which offers a quad-camera setup on the back, making it the world's first phone to do so. This Galaxy A9 was first announced in Malaysia last month and has now made its way to India. The Galaxy A9 is Samsung's attempt to take on premium mid-range phones like the OnePlus 6T and Poco F1. The Galaxy A9 is all about two key features - quad cameras and gradient design to attract. The four cameras on the back is to offer more ways to capture a photograph by including a telephoto, wide-angle and depth sensor in one system, while the gradient design makes the phone look fresh and trendy to attract a younger crowd much like the Honor 10. Here's a quick look at everything the new Galaxy A9 has to offer. Samsung Galaxy A9 specifications Display: The Galaxy A9 sports a 6.3-inch FHD+ (1080x2160) Super AMOLED display Processor: It is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor RAM: It will be offered with 6GB or 8GB of RAMl Internal storage: Both the RAM options will come with 128GB of internal storage. This is expandable up to 512GB through a microSD card Rear camera: The quad camera system on the back includes a 24MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultra wide angle lens with f/2.4 aperture, a 10MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and a 5MP depth sensor. Front camera: The device gets another 24MP sensor on the front and the camera supports live focus Battery: The Galaxy A9 (2018) will house a 3,800mAh battery with fast charge support via USB Type-C. Software: It will ship with Android Oreo with Samsung's Experience UI on top Samsung Galaxy A9 features -- The USP of the Galaxy A9 is the four cameras on the back that have been vertically placed on the top left corner. The idea is to offer you a lot more ways to capture photos that one may otherwise be unable to do with regular dual cameras. The quad-camera system will allow users to easily switch between regular to wide-angle, zoom to depth at your will. Additionally, the cameras also get functions like Scene Optimisation and defect recognition to help you capture the best shots. -- The four cameras on the back include a 2X telephoto lens for close up shots, a wide-angle lens for capture more area in a frame, a depth sensor to capture bokeh shots, and a regular 24MP primary sensor with a wide f/1.7 aperture for detailed low light captures. Most of the camera sensors are similar to the Galaxy A7 expect for the zoom lens. -- The Galaxy A9 also gets a unique gradient colour scheme on the back to attract a younger crowd. It's similar to the Huawei P20 Pro or the Honor 10 in that the gradient colour allows you to see different shades depending on how you look at it. The Bubblegum Pink and Lemonade Blue options have a gradient tone that moves from a darker shade to a lighter one. There's also a more subtle Caviar Black coour option available as well. -- The Galaxy A9 also houses a large 3,800mAh battery that should provide enough juice to take you through a full day and maybe more depending on your usage. The device also supports storage expandability up to 512GB which when combined with 128GB of internal storage would mean more than 600GB of total storage at your disposal. Samsung Galaxy A9 price in India and availability Samsung has priced the Galaxy A9 (2018) starting at Rs 36,990. This is for the 6GB RAM model that comes 128GB of internal storage. There is also an 8GB RAM variant that has been priced at Rs 39,990. The Galaxy A9's price in India has been kept pretty competitive considering its global pricing is 599 euros (approx Rs 51,300). Samsung has done this so that the Galaxy A9 can compete against the likes of the OnePlus 6 and Honor 10 that are also available in this segment and offer premium specs and design.
