A Park Sang-woo directorial, the show is based on the Korean web novel The Number You Have Dialed by Geon Eomul-nyeo.
The scene cuts to Hee-joo working as a sign language interpreter at a news agency. Viewers soon discover that while Hee-joo is Sa-eon’s wife, the Baek family has kept her identity hidden. This is because she is just filling in the shoes of her missing sister Hong In-a, who was initially supposed to marry Sa-eon.
Later, while driving back to her home, Hee-joo’s car starts malfunctioning and soon an anonymous man takes Hee-joo hostage. He then calls Sa-eon and threatens to kill his wife if he does not pay him ransom. Sa-eon cuts the call and cross-checks about Hee-joo’s whereabouts with her mother, who lies that Hee-joo is having dinner with her. A relieved Sa-eon once again receives a call from the kidnapper. Enraged, he dares the kidnapper to call him when he has an actual corpse to show him. This angers Hee-joo and she somehow speeds her car up, crosses a speed breaker, and injures the kidnapper in that process.
Towards the end of episode 1, the narrative shifts to the first scene of the party. Sa-eon receives a call from the kidnapper once again as Hee-joo leaves for the washroom. This time the caller reveals his location, which takes Sa-eon by surprise. The caller then narrates the truth about his marriage and demands that he must initiate a divorce with Hee-joo and pay the former two million won as a ransom for keeping the secret of his marriage. The episode ends with the most shocking twist of the series where the caller is revealed to be none other than Hee-joo herself. A flashback shows how Hee-joo took the kidnapper’s phone while escaping the place after injuring the latter. She later planned to get rid of her marriage of convenience by using the kidnapper’s phone to threaten Sa-eon.
In episode 2, Hee-joo tries to call Sa-eon from the stolen phone, pretending to be the perpetrator but Sa-eon’s phone seems to be switched off. She gets worried for him when he doesn’t return home that night. In the morning, Hee-joo finds out through the news that Sa-eon’s office has been bombed and Hee-joo’s calls from the stolen phone are now submitted as evidence.
The episode ends with Sa-eon returning home with blood stains. He walks up to Hee-joo and tries to find out if she has the same red mole on her thigh that he saw in the photo the perpetrator (also Hee-joo) had sent him the other night. While Hee-joo denies any physical contact with him, Sa-eon tells her that it is important for him to know who she “really is”.
