The video above is the result of applying the Live Effect to a normal picture. By analyzing the photos with various machine learning techniques, we reconstruct the site and camera location where the photos were taken and create an effect that looks as though the camera is re-shooting the video on the spot at the time the photo was taken. Read on to learn more about the principles and effects of Live Effect.

Principles of the Live Effect

Live Effect technology separates important objects in a photo through an image clipper to create two images: a 'separated foreground object' and an 'object-removed background'. It then uses the Object eraser's function of filling with different backgrounds to fill in empty spaces in the background where the object has been removed. But if you do that, you'll only see two flat images. To resolve this, the depth information is extracted from the original image to give a three-dimensional effect (volume) to each of the foreground and background. It then projects this three-dimensional front/back view into 3D space and naturally moves the viewpoint and front/back view of the virtual camera looking at it to provide a binocular parallax. Through just one picture, you can go back to where you took it and experience a lively effect as if you were watching the scene again.

How to apply Live Effect

Applying Live Effect is very simple.

On the screen where you view an individual photo in the Gallery, slide the screen up to select Live Effect from the recommended Edit Suggestion. The output with the Live Effect applied can be saved or shared as video.

Images that support Live Effect

Live Effect is provided in most images where people, dogs, and cats are present. If there are too many people or the object is too small, the Live Effect may not be properly supported.

  1. It's better if the picture is taken so that the face is situated in the center of the picture, horizontally and vertically.

    - Live Effect can move the background a lot more.

  1. Photos taken in portrait mode are more effective.

    - When the background is blurred in portrait mode, the Live Effect better distinguishes the background.

In fact, in addition to the above recommendation methods, we provide various Live Effect functions depending on the location and gaze of the main object. It would be fun to try Live Effects in photos of various compositions.

The new Live Effect function was designed and developed so that many people could enjoy and share lively photos. Enjoy your own memories by setting the Live Effect-applied images on your cover screen or wallpaper!

Live Effect feature for Photo Assist requires a resolution higher than 500x500. Supports JPG, HEIC (HEIF), BMP, PNG and WebP files. The accuracy and reliability of the generated output is not guaranteed.
