Photo Editor One UI 5.0 Update [01] AI Eraser Modifications

Options

Hello. I am the Samsung in-charge for ‘Editor’.

Experience the new One UI 5.0 update with a levelled-up AI eraser.

First, there’s the Object Remover of course. Then the quality for shadow and light reflection removal has also improved considerably.

Second, the devices that only supported object remover previously, support the shadow and light reflection removal feature too now.

We are doing our best to provide you with another update soon. Look forward to it!

Most importantly, we want you to use the feature, ask questions, give your valuable suggestions, if any!

[AI Eraser: Object eraser quality improvement]

Edit out objects more neatly using the upgraded AI model and image quality algorithm.

You see the difference between the object removed spaces in both the pictures, right?

Previously, the un-erased area quality would somewhat deteriorate, bringing down the overall quality of high resolution pictures also.

(We tried to erase the boat from the sea below, but the palm tree suffered a loss of quality along with it. ^^;;)

But don’t worry! We have put a quality enhanced algorithm in place now. Experience a better quality object eraser.

[AI Eraser: Shadow eraser enhancement]

We have levelled up the shadow eraser in two following ways.

  1. Automatically distinguishing between shadows to be deleted and shadows to be kept and then deleting
  2. Picture quality enhancement after shadows are removed

1. Automatically distinguishing and deleting shadows to be deleted from shadows to be kept

Update to prevent deletion of subject shadows

Previously, the tool deleted subject shadows too, as shown in the photo below, taking away from the three-dimensionality of the image.

To ensure that this three-dimensionality is not lost, we've trained our AI engine to distinguish between the shadows of the subject and those cast by the photographer's hands, smartphone, etc.

In the example below, shadows naturally cast by the cup are preserved, while unintended external objects like shadows from the photographer's hand, etc. are automatically detected and removed.

2. Quality improvement after application of shadow eraser

We have resolved the issue with image quality degradation after applying shadow eraser by training the AI engine.

[AI Eraser: Reflection eraser image quality enhancement]

We have also enhanced the light reflection eraser applied image quality.

We'll continue to train and improve our AI engine, so stay tuned to see how it evolves.

In addition to the AI Eraser, there are many other modifications that are a part of the Photo Editor in One UI 5.0.

We'll also be introducing the enhancements for the Photo Editor.

Next up, we'll be introducing the new and improved Deco (Decorations) feature.

We'll always be your favorite Samsung editor.
