Introducing Zoom lock

Galaxy camera boasts high-powered lenses that zoom up to 100X (Optical zoom of 10x and digital zoom of 100x in Ultra model)

With the Galaxy camera, you don’t have to break a sweat to capture your favorite singer on stage, no matter how far you are. You can also get a clear picture of the moon with ease using the high-power zoom [1]
But snapping steady shots with the high-power zoom can be a bit tricky.
The angle of view narrows down, and the more you zoom in, the camera becomes more sensitive to any unsteady motion.

Here, Zoom lock comes into play.

2.PNGThe above image shows the difference between zooming in with zoom lock and without. Thanks to Zoom lock, the image on the right is a lot steadier than the one on the left.
The Zoom lock feature helps click relatively steady pictures in high zoom without a tripod. It minimizes motion from wobbly hands and helps capture stable compositions.

Supported Devices

- Galaxy S20, S21, S22, Fold4, A72

- The feature is available in the above models since Dec 2022. Zoom lock also works in Galaxy models where zoom above 30x is supported.

Zoom Lock Mode

Zoom lock works in photo mode without any configuration, but the phone should be unlocked and in a stable condition to enter this locked state. You can use the two below methods zooming in above 20x, to enter zoom lock.

① Hold the phone steady for 1.5 seconds.

② Touch the phone screen (the picture area).

Once the photo is zoom-locked, OIS and VDIS technology work together to keep the unsteadiness at bay.
OIS and VDIS steady the motion as much as possible given the corrective range of each technology. They analyse the image to lock in on the angle of view.
This helps steady the picture a lot by saving captured details and hiking the correction performance.

The zoom map border at the top right of the picture (vertical grip) turning yellow indicates that it is zoom locked. You can now hit the shutter to get a highly zoomed-in picture.
However, please note that the lock is automatically released if the camera detects more than a certain amount of motion.
