Scene Optimiser Summary

Scene optimiser essentially gives you the best version of the photos you capture. It optimizes the colour and brightness of the subject or scene in a particular image, and employs deep-learning scene recognition and object detection technology for the same.

Even pro photographers find it difficult to break ground in areas that exceed their expertise. This is because, taking the best picture involves a permutation and combination of camera settings suited to the subject and background in question.

However, users find it a hassle to pay attention to technical details like colour saturation, illumination, white balance etc. when they take pictures with their smartphone. Therefore, we need a feature that delivers quality pictures, satisfies the sensibilities of experts, and is easy to use by the average user.

With this in mind, the purpose of this feature is to cater to both experts and everyday users. While it enables the average user to shoot pro-quality pictures easily, it offers pro photographers the option to customize their shooting experience to their liking.

Introducing Scene Optimiser

It is quite simple to use this feature. You can enter ‘photo mode’, go to the settings menu and enable/disable it, as shown in the image below.

This feature applies the most-suited optimization from a dynamic range of options, based on scenes detected using the object detection technology.
More than 30 types of modes to recognize various scenes are available. They are child, person(s), puppies, cats, food, beach, sky, mountains, sunrise and sunset, city, waterfalls, riverside, scenery, stage, drinks, flowers, trees, animals, shoes, indoor, clothing, text, moon, night, etc.

Scene Optimiser technology analyses elements, such as the main object, scene and time of the picture, and classifies images into around 30 categories consisting of the above mentioned scenes. Moreover, it automatically applies the best colour, tone, and settings to improve the overall quality of the image.

Using Scene Optimiser in Galaxy camera

Scene optimiser is applied by default in a photo shot with the Galaxy camera. Depending on the scene detected, it optimizes a dark shot into a bright one, makes the food look more appetizing, and adds more vividness to scenery.

You can see the difference scene optimiser makes in the image below.

This feature only works in ‘photo mode’ and is available in Galaxy S9 ( Android 8 ) and above.

One thing to be noted is that the scene optimiser cannot be used together with the ‘filters’ effect as both features are linked to photo color.
