Camera Assistant! Right up your alley!

Options

Hi everyone, I am the Camera in charge!

We unveiled the Galaxy S23 in the Unpacked event on 2nd February 2023 and updated the Camera Assistant app on 8th February in the Galaxy store.

Camera Assistant was first introduced in Galaxy S22 with One UI 5.0. It has been updated in S23 based on your feedback and comes with refined settings and new features.

We've added a medium option to "picture softening" and an ‘interval between pictures’ option to "Timer multi-photo options" as suggested by many of you in the Galaxy S22 beta test. We have also added new options, especially for the Galaxy S23 release. Please give them a try and let us know what you think.

Let's take a closer look.

Picture softening [UPDATE]

This option is for those who prefer a softer photo texture to Galaxy Camera's default quality settings, which take detailed and sharp photos.

We have added a medium option to the ‘Picture softening’ option available in the Galaxy S22 series, breaking it down into three levels.

Quick tap shutter [NEW]

It takes a certain amount of time (tens to hundreds of ms) to press and release the shoot button. To reduce this time and experience an improved shooting experience, you can set the camera to take pictures as soon as your finger touches the shutter button, instead of when you lift your finger.

However, swiping or holding the shutter button will take a photo first, followed by a GIF, burst shots, and video.

Capture speed [UPDATE]

You can prioritise between capture quality and speed for captures. Try the "Prioritise speed" option if you want to get quick shots to capture certain moments rather than paying attention to the quality. But, if you want to shoot quicker than the default setting but still care about the quality, select the "Balance speed and quality" option.

We have added ‘balance speed and quality’ under the ‘Regular resolution’ tab and ‘Prioritise speed’ under the ‘High resolution’ tab within the Faster shutter menu offered in the Galaxy S22 series.

If you want to view your photos a little faster after taking a high-resolution shot on the Galaxy S23 series, try ‘Prioritise speed’.

You can use this for faster shots in low-light conditions too. Go to Camera Assistant > Auto HDR> OFF.

Timer multi-photo options [UPDATE]

You can set a timer to take a series of shots at regular intervals without pressing the shutter again.

We have added the ‘interval between pictures (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 seconds)’ option to ‘Number of pictures after timer’ within the ‘Timer multi-photo options’ available in the Galaxy S22 series.

Dim screen while recording [NEW]

If you shoot a video for a long time, you can save battery by dimming the screen brightness. Try it when you're shooting a video longer than 1-10 minutes.

Plan to expand support
You can experience the released Camera Assistant version after the One UI 5.1 update.
Supported Models: Galaxy S22, S21, N20, and S20 series/Fold4 / Flip4 / Fold3 / Flip3 / Fold2

(However, the lens auto switch OFF feature will not be supported for models other than the Galaxy S22 / Fold4 models to further optimize the low-light quality when this feature is off. It will be supported in all models in the next SW update after going through quality enhancement.)
