A natural looking front camera portrait mode

Options

The front camera portrait mode estimates the distance information using the one image it acquires from the single camera at the front along with the AI model, unlike the rear camera portrait mode that uses dual cameras. In the latest Galaxy flagship models, the in-depth map accuracy has improved using the phase difference information from the dual pixel (2PD) sensor.

※ Supported models : S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, Z Fold5, Z Flip5

Dual Pixel Sensor is mostly used for Auto Focus (AF). Each sensor pixel consists of two sub pixels since there is a phase difference between sub pixels depending on the distance, this could be used for estimating distance.

This AI model uses this phase difference detail as an additional lead, which improves the distance estimation accuracy and makes a more natural portrait mode effect.
