That’s a good observation 👍. The Samsung Wallet shortcut on the lock screen is designed to trigger fingerprint authentication only for payment, without unlocking the phone fully.
If your device is now unlocking during the process, it could be due to a recent software or Wallet app update. A few things you can try:
1. Check Wallet Settings → Open Samsung Wallet > Settings > Quick access and make sure the option for “Unlock required” is set correctly.
2. Update Apps & Software → Ensure Samsung Wallet and your phone software are up to date.
3. Re-register Fingerprints → Sometimes re-adding your fingerprints helps fix unexpected unlock behavior.
4. Clear Cache → Go to Settings > Apps > Samsung Wallet > Storage > Clear cache.
If it still behaves the same, this might be a UI change introduced in the latest update rather than a bug. You can also report it directly through the Samsung Members → Get Help → Error reports, so the software team can review it.
