Hi Marsie, here’s the honest answer — it depends on the type of data and where it was stored. Let me break it down simply:
---
✅ If the app stored data in the cloud
Examples: WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Google apps, Samsung Notes (if synced)
Good news — you can get it back.
Just reinstall the app and sign in with the same account. The data will sync again.
---
❌ If the app stored data only locally (internal storage) and you chose “delete app data”
Then most of the time, the data is permanently gone.
Android treats “app data” as private sandboxed storage. When you uninstall the app without keeping data, that folder is wiped clean.
---
🟡 BUT… there are a few exceptions where you might recover something:
1. If the app saved data to a folder in Internal Storage (outside its sandbox)
Example:
WhatsApp Media
Game files saved in /Android/data (sometimes)
Downloads saved to /Download
You can check using My Files → Internal Storage.
2. If you had Samsung Cloud / Google Drive backup enabled
Some apps might have saved settings or data through backups.
Check:
Settings → Accounts & backup → Backup data
3. If it was cached or synced in the background
Some apps restore partial data once you log in.
---
❗ Things that do NOT work
There is no recycle bin for app data.
“Data recovery apps” cannot access app data (Android security blocks them).
Recovery is almost impossible if new data already overwrote the storage area.
---
🔍 If you want, tell me:
1. Which app was it?
2. What exact data are you trying to recover (messages, progress, files, notes, passwords, etc.)?
I’ll give you specific steps — some apps have hidden recovery options.
