I have an s24 ultra (g928u1) on one ui 8. I have been experiencing charging issues since the update. This is only on USB charging, wireless charging works fine. The issue is that when plugged in and the phone is on, the phone says Super Fast Charging 2.0, but the battery actually drains. When the phone is off, it does not drain but the speed is definitely slow. I suspected a faulty charging port and actually had it replaced at an authorized Samsung service center, but the issue still persists.

I'll appreciate any pointers as to what might be the problem

Hi
Since wireless charging works perfectly and you’ve already replaced the charging port, the issue most likely lies in software-level power management or firmware calibration after the One UI 8 update (not hardware). Let’s go step-by-step to isolate and fix this.

---

🔍 Step-by-Step Diagnostic & Fix Guide

1. Confirm Charger & Cable Integrity

Even if it says Super Fast Charging 2.0, the phone might be detecting the voltage handshake but not actually drawing enough current.

Use your official Samsung 45W charger and cable (EP-T4510 or similar).

Try a different genuine Samsung cable — third-party cables often misbehave after firmware updates due to stricter USB PD (Power Delivery) handshake enforcement.

Test your current charger on another Samsung device that supports Super Fast Charging.

If the other device charges normally, move to step 2.

If not, replace the charger/cable.

---

2. Clear USB Power Controller Cache

The USB power controller firmware sometimes holds corrupted settings after major updates.

1. Power off your S24 Ultra.

2. Hold Volume Up + Power until the Samsung logo appears → this opens Recovery Mode.

3. Use volume buttons to select Wipe cache partition, then press Power to confirm.

4. After that, select Repair apps (if available).

5. Reboot.
(This does not delete your data.)

---

3. Reset Charging Configuration

Run a USB settings reset to clear software misbehavior:

Dial *#0# → Go to “Sensor” → Check “USB” readings for abnormalities.

Then go to Settings → Apps → Show system apps → USBSettings
→ Storage → Clear Cache and Clear Data.

Reboot the phone.

---

4. Safe Mode Test

To rule out third-party interference:

1. Press and hold Power button → Tap and hold Power off → Choose Safe mode.

2. Plug in the charger.

If it charges normally in Safe Mode → a background app (battery enhancer, temperature control, etc.) is interfering.

If not, continue.

---

5. Battery Calibration (Post-Update Issue)

Firmware updates often throw off the battery controller.

1. Charge the phone to 100% (even if it’s slow).

2. Use it until it dies completely (auto-shuts off).

3. Then charge back to 100% without interruption while powered off.
This recalibrates the voltage controller.

---

6. Developer Option Reset

Sometimes the PD negotiation fails due to background debugging:

Go to Settings → Developer options.

Ensure USB debugging is OFF.

Also toggle Default USB Configuration → “Charging only”.

Reboot.

---

7. Last Resort: Software Repair (Smart Switch)

If all else fails, perform a firmware reflash using Smart Switch:

1. Install Smart Switch on your PC.

2. Connect the phone → click More → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.

3. Follow the prompts.
This reinstalls the One UI 8 firmware cleanly (not just a reset).

---

⚠️ Likely Cause

Based on your description:

> “Super Fast Charging 2.0 shows, but battery drains while plugged in.”

This typically indicates a PD handshake success but current flow failure — often due to a firmware bug affecting power regulation after the One UI 8 update (especially reported on Snapdragon variants like G928U1).
Samsung is expected to patch this in a maintenance update soon.

🧩 Temporary Workaround

Until Samsung issues a patch:

Use Wireless Charging as your main method.

Avoid using the phone heavily while charging via cable.

You can toggle Fast Charging OFF under:

> Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → More battery settings → Fast charging → Off,
then ON again to “reset” charging behavior occasionally.

Thanks for this detailed feedback. The issue has been bugging me quite a bit, so I've tried most of these steps.
1. I can confirm this does not work. The charger is perfectly ok, charges my backup s20 super fast
2.Cleared the cache severally, nothing.
3. Part of remedies in my research, not working
4. Also part of my tests, didn't work. Slow charging when phone is off
5. I'll get back on this shortly, just drained it completely moments ago
6. Did not work as well
7. I'm about to try this as it looks like my last resort at this moment

UPDATE:

I drained the battery completely to try and see if things will reset. I'm now stuck on this screen for both cable and wireless charging. Power button does not turn the phone on, so seems it's not charging on either methods now. 😡😡pdL9DJCkwB.jpg
