The screen is always on whenever i make a call. I have put a protector on the screen so i don't know if the protector is causing all that. Anything i can do. My phone is less than a month old

Open the Phone Dialer and enter: *#0*# (this may open a hardware test menu on Samsung devices).Tap Sensor and check the Proximity Sensor by covering the top part of the screen.
If it responds (screen turns black), the sensor is working fine.
If it doesn’t respond, there might be a hardware issue or interference.

I have used a black screen protector on my device, any chance it might interfere?

The proximity sensor is usually located near the top of the screen (near the front camera).

If the screen protector or a case is covering this area, it might prevent the sensor from functioning properly.
If the error started after you had put black screen, Kindly remove it ,If the screen functions correctly without the protector, replace it with a thinner or compatible one.

Sometimes a simple restart can solve the issue,,,
