We would like to introduce you to Photo editor’s new feature “Generative edit” in Galaxy S24. Generative edit uses Generative AI to help you break free from previous editing methods; you can reconstruct your pictures not limited to what is inside the photo.

Before we dive into the explanation, please keep the following in mind before using Generative Edit.

※ Generative Edit requires a network connection and Samsung Account login. Editing with Generative Edit results in a resized photo up to 12MP. A visible watermark is overlaid on the image output upon saving in order to indicate that the image is generated by AI.

*Images simulated for illustrative purposes. Sequences shortened and simulated. Actual UI may be different.
*Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices.  Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.

※ This feature processes the image being edited on a server, but the processed image is not stored by Samsung.
※ The feature tries to fill in empty spaces as naturally as possible by referring the overall context of the feature. However, considering the nature of AI functionality, the results may not meet your expectations. We will continue to improve the performance of AI functions and strive to provide better quality.

※ Supported Models: This feature will be supported on the Galaxy S24 series and the select Samsung Galaxy mobile devices from One UI 6.1 (S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, S23 FE, Tab S9 | S9+ | S9 Ultra).
*Some function availability may vary by device model.

*Samsung does not make any promises, assurances or guarantees as to the accuracy, completeness or reliability of the output provided by AI features.

Photo editor’s newest feature can be accessed by pressing the CamcyclopediaExpert_0-1715859799234.png Generative edit button, which can be found on the left side of the main screen of Photo editor.

Note that the Ratio button (the icon with the word Free) can now be found in the middle of the screen.

New composition editing using Generative AI function – part one.

You can straighten the picture without cropping the original.

Prior to S24, when you straightened the picture, the original photo would straighten while some parts were cut off. (Refer to the example photo on the left)

However, as shown in the example on the right, you can use the Generative edit feature to straighten the original photo without having it cropped. With Generative edit, you can press the Generate button at the bottom of the screen and the grid-marked outer area will be automatically filled.

Picture 4. There are 2 ways to select a subject: (Left) Tap, (Right) Draw

By touching and holding the selected object, you can separate it from the original photo and edit it, as shown below. You can move or adjust the size of the separated object.

At this point, you can see two buttons above the object. Press the left button to return the object to its original position, and press the right button to delete the object.

You can use this method to edit as shown below.

※ Tips when selecting a subject!

The more meticulously you choose the subject you want to edit, the more naturally the empty space will be generated. For example, if the subject you wish to edit has a shadow, select the subject’s shadow with the object to erase or move. If an erased subject’s shadow remains, then a new object may be generated to fit in that space according to the context provided by the shadow.
Please take this into account when editing the subject.

Enjoy the fun of editing compositions in more diverse ways using the Photo editor’s new Generative edit feature.
