You can't set a default calling background 

Now the background wil be whatever color assigned to the contact which are hideous

No i costumized the background easily like before nothing changed for me

You can customize each profile background that's correct
But you can't set one for the whole contacts now when a contact calls the background will be the default color assigned randolmy to the contact
The caller background setting only applies to non contact calls
