VPN in the secure folder is unusable

Secure Folder

Hi Samsung,

Could you please make the VPN work continuously from the Secure Folder?

I've tried a few VPN apps and they all seem to have connectivity issues, is it me or is it happening for someone else?.

Browsing pages work for a few seconds and then stop working until I go back to the VPN app. It's as if the VPN app needs to be "awake" at all times in order to preserve the connection.

What I know so far:

* The secure folder in practical terms works similar to a separate phone with separate apps and separate vpn connection. Having a VPN app installed on the non-secure folder will NOT have an effect over browsing or using apps that require internet from the secure folder.
* I need a VPN in the secure folder so I can access the apps from the secure folder using the IP provided by the VPN

The issues I'm having:

* The VPN running from the Secure Folder is nearly unusable. I did manage to make it work but after debugging and troubleshooting it seems that the connection gets briefly interrupted if you just switched the phone on or navigate between apps. It is as if the VPN app loses priority and then it causes connectivity issues

The request:

* Samsung can you please make the VPN work as normal from the secure folder?

thank you!

Secure Folder
Hi 👋
Thanks for sharing the detailed feedback. You’re absolutely right, Secure Folder is designed like a “separate phone” inside your device, so a VPN has to run independently there. Having a VPN outside won’t affect apps inside Secure Folder.

What you’re noticing (VPN working only when the app is “awake”) usually happens because:

Apps in Secure Folder can get background restrictions.

VPN services may lose priority when switching between apps or after screen lock.

Not all VPN apps are fully optimized for Secure Folder’s sandboxed environment.

A couple of things you could try in the meantime:

1. In Settings → Battery → Background usage limits, exclude the VPN app (both inside and outside Secure Folder if installed twice).

2. Check if the VPN supports Always-on VPN (Connections → More connection settings → VPN → choose app → toggle Always-on).

3. Some users report better stability with VPNs that specifically advertise “per-app VPN” or Samsung Knox compatibility.

That said, your request makes sense. A more seamless VPN experience inside Secure Folder would definitely help many users. I’d recommend submitting this as an official suggestion via the Samsung Members → Get Help → Send feedback → Feature request menu so it reaches the development team directly.
