My little sister has a Samsung Galaxy M14 and my parents installed Google Family Link on her phone. After updating to One UI 8, Gemini was automatically installed. The problem is that Gemini doesn’t work with Family Link, and a message saying that Gemini can’t be applied keeps popping up every 10 seconds, which makes the phone very annoying to use. The strange thing is that she can’t uninstall Gemini either.

She also has another problem: the power button suddenly stopped working. Because of that and the message popping up, they sometimes happen together — the message appears and the phone shuts down automatically. She came to me holding her phone and crying because she thought her phone had died forever.

Has anyone else experienced this with Gemini or Family Link? How did you fix it?

Thank you for sharing the issue, and we’re really sorry to hear about the experience—especially how it affected your sister.

Regarding the repeated message related to Gemini, this may happen due to compatibility limitations with Google Family Link. At the moment, some features of Gemini are restricted on supervised (child) accounts, which can cause continuous prompts.

Kindly try the following steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Gemini.
  2. Tap “Disable” (if uninstall is not available).
  3. Clear cache and data for the app.
  4. Ensure the device is updated to the latest software version.
  5. If the issue continues, you may also check Family Link settings to review app permissions and restrictions.

Regarding the power button not working:

  1. Please try restarting the device using on-screen options (Quick Panel > Power icon).
  2. You can also enable Assistant menu or Accessibility menu to access virtual buttons (Settings > Accessibility > Interaction and dexterity).
  3. Since the power button is a hardware component, if it is not responding consistently or causing unexpected shutdowns, we recommend visiting the nearest authorized service center for proper inspection.
