Galaxy S
Hello everyone,
Is there a way to make my Galaxy S22 Plus (running One UI 7) require a password or PIN before allowing the device to shut down/power off?
I’d appreciate any tips or workarounds to prevent unauthorized shutdowns.
Thanks in advance!
Regards

Yes, you can configure your Galaxy S22 Plus (running One UI 7) to require a password or PIN before it can be shut down/powered off, especially when the device is locked. This is a crucial security feature that helps prevent unauthorized individuals from easily turning off your phone and hindering its trackability if lost or stolen.
Here's how to enable this feature:
* Go to Settings: Open the "Settings" app on your Galaxy S22 Plus.
* Navigate to Lock screen & AOD: Scroll down and tap on "Lock screen and Always On Display."
* Choose Secure lock settings: Within the Lock screen settings, look for and tap on "Secure lock settings." You will likely be prompted to enter your current PIN, pattern, or password to access these sensitive settings.
* Turn on "Lock network & security" or "Secure lock settings" (wording may vary slightly): This is the key setting. Enable the toggle for "Lock network and security" or a similar option that explicitly mentions preventing power off/restart when locked.
Important Notes and Workarounds:
* When it works: This feature primarily works when your phone is locked. If your phone is already unlocked, it generally won't require a password to power off.
* Find My Mobile: Ensure "Find My Mobile" (or SmartThings Find) is enabled and set up on your Samsung account. This allows you to remotely locate, lock, or erase your device even if it's powered off (due to "Offline finding" capabilities).
* Hard Reset/Force Shutdown: Be aware that most Android phones (including Samsung) have a hardware-level force shutdown mechanism (usually holding the Power button and Volume Down button for an extended period). This is designed as a fail-safe in case the phone becomes unresponsive. This hardware reset generally bypasses software locks, so while the "require password to power off" feature is excellent for deterring casual theft, it won't prevent a determined individual from forcing a shutdown.
* Third-Party Apps (Limited Effectiveness): While some third-party apps claim to prevent shutdowns, they often rely on software-level interventions that can be bypassed by a hardware force shutdown. Stick to the built-in Samsung security features for the most reliable protection.
By enabling "Lock network & security" and having Find My Mobile active, you significantly increase the security of your Galaxy S22 Plus against unauthorized shutdowns and improve your chances of locating it if it goes missing.
