Dear Samsung Support Team,
I am writing to report a recurring issue I’m facing with my Samsung Galaxy A54 5G related to microphone performance during WhatsApp voice and video calls.
🔧 Problem Description:
• The microphone does not work at the start of a WhatsApp call (both incoming and outgoing).
• This issue happens only in WhatsApp calls; the mic works perfectly in regular calls, voice recorder, and other apps.
• After multiple taps on the mute/unmute button inside WhatsApp, the mic starts working again.
• This behavior suggests a software-level conflict or audio routing delay, possibly related to background mic access, sound effects, or system optimization.
🧪 Troubleshooting Already Tried:
• Cleared WhatsApp cache and updated the app
• Verified mic permissions are allowed
• Disabled Bluetooth and audio effects like Dolby Atmos
• Set WhatsApp to “Unrestricted” under Battery settings
• Reinstalled WhatsApp
• Tested mic in safe mode
Despite these efforts, the problem continues to occur, and I believe this could be due to a compatibility issue between WhatsApp’s audio access and Samsung’s system-level sound processing or background app handling.
📌 Request:
Please investigate whether recent One UI updates or system sound optimizations could be causing delayed microphone access for third-party VoIP apps like WhatsApp. A patch or update would be greatly appreciated to fix this usability issue.
Thank you for your time and support. Please let me know if any further logs or steps are required from my end.
Sincerely,
Bavananthan Harishpavan

First go to your WhatsApp information, then go to Permissions and then tap on the microphone.

Heyyy
just a quick heads up, I’m not Samsung Support, Just another user here who’s a bit into tech and likes helping out 💙

Since the mic works perfectly on regular calls and only glitches on WhatsApp, Just to double check, try this:
Go to Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics > Microphone, and test all mic positions. Some apps use different mics depending on the situation (like top mic for noise cancelling or video), so it's good to rule that out. If any of mics doesn't give you a proper output, There is sth wrong with the microphone you are testing and that leads this issue

Also this is less likely to be a software bug, since others have mentioned similar issues if it is something wrong with OneUi.

Let me know how the mic test goes💙
