Nowadays Samsung uses Virtual Proximity sensor. Thay are not as much responsive and accurate as previously used real sensors were.
Keep using it, you will understand the working in some days.

I suggest addressing this to Samsung team as well. May be it will make them think of using physical sensor or better alternatives in future. Although probability is very less that they would consider this.
As getting used to it still doesn't give 100% reliability

Yes, Off course. I have been using virtual proximity sensor devices since 3 years, they are not reliable and accurate. I always fase issues while listening to audio msg on ear speaker and if mobile is placed inside pocket during call, screen get many touches accidentally.
Samsung should switch back to real proximity sensor, they can easily be incorporate in upper chin (Oppo still doing this) Auto brightness and proximity sensor works like best things in Oppo devices.

You are right. I have used a device with an actual proximity sensor, and I never faced such issues. For this reason, I have also communicated with the Samsung team to give them feedback on virtual proximity sensors.
May be if they get feedback from many user, better devices can be seen in the future.
Let's hope for the best.
