On my Galaxy A07, the proximity sensor turns the screen off when I make a call through the Phone app and hold it to my ear. However, after I move it away from my ear, the screen stays off and doesn't turn back on untill i press the power button. Interestingly, it works perfectly fine during WhatsApp calls.

I report this bug 3 weeks ago but samsung not resolved this issue in December update, i am very disappointed from samsung support.

Well virtual proximity sensor works like this. When i switched to A15 it was really annoying for me as virtual proximity need some sudden movement to work. I mean if you move your phone too slowly it will not turn off/on screen. Well what i do is bring my phone back with some quick motion from vertical to position like(back camera facing ground). It turn on the screen.
Lengthy explaination.
But hope it will help

The proximity sensor functions correctly on WhatsApp but fails specifically during cellular calls. Suggesting that the user must quickly move the phone's position to trigger the sensor is unacceptable. Regardless of whether Samsung is using virtual or hardware-based technology, the basic functionality should be reliable.

This has been issue with Samsung A0x series phones. Nothing new.
The best performance starts from A3x series/models.
