According to International Data Corporation (IDC) sales figures, Samsung shipped 7.1 million tablets in Q3 2024, marking an 18.3% increase from the previous year. While the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and Ultra launched this year, it's the budget-friendly Galaxy Tab A9 models that have driven most of Samsung's growth across regions.

Despite this, Samsung was 5.5 million units shy of the market leader, Apple, which shipped 12.6 million iPads in Q3. Apple saw moderate year-over-year growth of 1.4%, although the new OLED iPad Pros fell short of sales expectations.

Amazon secured the third spot with 4.6 million Kindle shipments, a 111.3% increase from last year. HUAWEI and Lenovo rounded out the top five, with HUAWEI narrowly surpassing Lenovo with 3.2 million and 3 million shipments, respectively.

Overall, global tablet sales saw a 20.4% increase in Q3 2024, indicating a strong market performance despite a decline in smartphone sales.

It's interesting to see Samsung's strong performance in the tablet market with the Galaxy Tab A9 models driving growth. The 18.3% year-over-year increase in shipments is impressive, especially considering the competition from Apple and other brands like Amazon. While Samsung is still trailing behind Apple in terms of units shipped, the market dynamics seem to be shifting, with more consumers leaning towards affordable options like the Galaxy Tab A9. It'll be fascinating to see how the next few quarters play out, especially with Apple’s relatively slower growth and Amazon’s impressive rise with Kindle shipments. I’m curious to know how these trends will impact future product launches across the industry.

It’s interesting to note that Samsung’s growth in the tablet market, driven largely by the budget-friendly Galaxy Tab A9 models, is a testament to the demand for affordable devices. While the 18.3% increase in shipments is impressive, Samsung still lags behind Apple, which leads the market with 12.6 million iPads shipped. Despite this, Samsung’s performance is noteworthy, especially given the challenges posed by competitors like Amazon, which saw a massive 111.3% growth in Kindle shipments. It’s clear that the tablet market is evolving, with more consumers gravitating towards value-driven options. It will be interesting to see how Samsung and other companies continue to respond to these shifting trends in the coming months.
