Galaxy SPeople have a common misunderstanding that a software update is required for 5G to work on a mobile phone. In reality, no software update is needed to enable 5G; the device simply needs to be 5G-compatible. As soon as 5G network signals become available in your area, 5G will automatically start working on any 5G-enabled mobile phone

Your point is partially correct, but it does not reflect the complete technical picture, especially in the context of Pakistan’s current 5G rollout
While it is true that a 5G-capable device does not always require a traditional “software update” to detect 5G signals, in practice, 5G activation depends on more than just hardware compatibility. Modern smartphones rely on carrier certification, firmware whitelisting, and region-specific configurations before enabling 5G access
Manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, and Google control 5G availability through carrier bundles, CSC configurations, and firmware level approvals. If a telecom operator is not officially certified or whitelisted for a specific region, the 5G option may remain hidden or restricted on the device, even if the hardware fully supports it
This is exactly what is currently happening in Pakistan. The networks have been launched, but many devices especially iPhones and some Samsung models are still awaiting official carrier certification and firmware enablement. Once that process is completed, 5G will automatically become available on compatible devices
So, in theory, your statement is valid. However, in real world deployments, particularly during early rollout phases like Pakistan’s, carrier-level approvals and software side enablement play a critical role
