Not showing gmail pop-ups unless I open gmail app due to which I don't know is there any mail or not on gmail

Maybe you put the app to deep sleeping apps

- Go to Settings > Apps > GMail > Notifications (It might be turned off)
OR
- Also, check if the sync is on. You check this in the settings app or quick settings option (swipe down from the top of the screen)

Change its battery optimisation settings.. either keep it unrestricted or optimised..
