After every major update does a factory reset. That's good for smooth running. Before that do a full backup and remove every account from your phone.

Update Play Store and Galaxy Store apps.

Backup data using Smart Switch. Backup WhatsApp and other Social Media data (Cloud Backup). Do a compete reset. And then restore, update apps from play store.
