Wipe Cache Partition in most times works. No any problems if you do that in the proper way.
If battery drain is not fixed by the Wipe Cache method , if you know the technical part, flash the relevant firmware for your device. Make backups before that because data will be wiped.

Yes it improves battery. But if you are doing it suggest you to backup all your data. But in my opinion wait till Samsung realises the next security update and it will definitely solve the battery draining issues.
