So i connected my laptop hdd to my phone (S9) with the otg that came with my phone but it didn't show anything so I did some research and it turned out that I have to have extra power so I connected one side to my phone and the other to my ps4 so basically I thought the ps4 whould give extra power cause I didn't have a USB hub and it works but sometimes it gives a error high power usb connected unable to access this device needs external power supply eventhough I have already given a extra power source any idea ?

HDD needs much more energy cause its a spinning disk...So better use Some another USB port to power up while connected to phone.....and Cause its a HDD. your response rate is low soo...... you'll have hard time loading your files🤔
Don't know for sure....but i guess it may be a helpful word....Though not sure

HDD file format is NTFS. Mobile devices work only with the FAT32 file format. That is why it's not showing on the mobile phone. There's no problem with the USB 2.0 and 3.0.

If you want to try HDD on mobile you have to format it to the FAT32 file format. But it is not recommended. Because FAT32 file format can have one file's maximum size is 4GB.

I know about this because I tried this. 🙈

You have to use an external power supply.
