Data Portability issue in Samsung Pass

There's a critical concern regarding data portability in Samsung Pass. While attempting to export my data for transfer to Chrome, I encountered a challenge, Samsung Pass currently does not provide any tools or options to export stored data in standard formats like CSV or XML. We'll find that is given to us only in the '.Spass' and we will not get any choices in this matter. This limitation makes it highly inconvenient for users to transition to other services, requiring manual transfer of entries.

The absence of an export option poses a significant inconvenience for users, as manually transferring numerous entries including passwords, account information, and payment methods is time intensive and prone to human error. This restricts the flexibility and usability of the service, impacting the overall user experience.

Potential Solutions to Consider

To address this issue, Samsung could consider implementing a secure data export tool that allows users to transfer their data seamlessly to other services in standard formats. Such a feature would not only improve user satisfaction but also demonstrate Samsung’s commitment to transparency and customer centric design.

I hope Samsung will review this concern and explore solutions to address the data portability limitations in Samsung Pass. Providing a data export option would greatly enhance the usability of the service for all users.

For those who got IT skills, a Github repository called spass-manager tool to securely extract and export your Samsung Pass data into a standard CSV format, making it easier to transition to other password management services.

The tool is user-friendly and comes with clear instructions to guide the process. However, as with any third-party tool, ensure you review the source code and follow security best practices when handling sensitive data.

You can explore the repository and its features here: <Link in comment>

🤔 can anyone confirm if Samsung pass uses for data transfer purposes?...

Isn't Samsung Pass supposed to be the average payment manager for Samsung?

if I create an account on a website from my Samsung device, the password is stored only on my Samsung device. If I have other devices, I have to manually type those credentials every time.

This might be manageable at first, but as I create more accounts over time, it becomes increasingly difficult to search for and manually input passwords across different platforms. A feature allowing data export or easier synchronization across devices would be incredibly helpful.

Are those other devices also Samsung?... For me, I don't need to type individualy.

Try using google's safe key services. It works the same way for every device

That's a valid point, but not everyone is fully committed to the Samsung ecosystem. Many of us use a mix of devices and platforms. For example, my laptop is a Dell, and I use Chrome for browsing. When I create accounts on my Samsung mobile and the passwords are automatically saved in Samsung Pass, those credentials don’t automatically sync to other platforms like Chrome.

If a password is securely generated and saved in Samsung Pass, typing it manually each time, especially on another platform, becomes a hassle. This is exactly why a feature for exporting or syncing passwords across platforms would be incredibly beneficial for users who aren’t confined to the Samsung ecosystem. It’s about flexibility and making life easier for everyone.

I understand you're having trouble.

Try downloading Samsung applications to your PC. It's late, and I apologize if my explanation wasn't clear. Similar applications from Google and Microsoft use a combined approach, and you may not need to enter all the information.

I'll gladly try to assist you further in the morning. I need to investigate and observe the situation myself.

Seems kind of fun matter to look at, 👌

That’s an interesting suggestion, but it might not fully address the issue. While downloading Samsung applications on a PC could be a workaround, it's not a universal solution for all users, especially those outside the Samsung ecosystem or using other browsers and platforms.

but it still doesn’t address the root problem of data portability. Unlike Samsung Pass, most modern platforms provide a CSV export feature for easy data transfer. For example, Google Password Manager, Microsoft Edge, LastPass, 1Password, and even Apple Keychain allow users to export their saved credentials in a standard format.

Samsung Pass, on the other hand, remains locked within its ecosystem, requiring manual effort to bridge the gap.

It’s great that you’re trying to observe and help with this issue, but the lack of a simple export function remains a major drawback for Samsung Pass compared to its competitors. Hopefully, this is something Samsung will consider addressing soon.

Yes, I agree. However, this was never a concern of mine; it's wonderful that someone discovered this issue and informed the Samsung community.

They will likely address this matter.

I've escalated this to Samsung and got the response as they will forward this to the development team for consideration in future updates. I will see if this gets resolved sooner.1734771297303.jpg

That's a great approach... ❤ I'm glad to hear from you again regarding this... as i responded to you earlier, you could use an alternative for now because they will take a few weeks at least to provide your message to essential people
