Weird space in the app drawer

I don't know why but the extra space in the upper side of the App Drawer looks weird. 

Reduce the space or add something that cover can this space or redesign the app drawer in way that the space won't be noticed.

I think they made it intentional to improve one handed reach to the top of the drawer. But not sure

Seems old search bar position. Just moved down but top space not utilized
