Currently, the only method to "block" SMS messages is by disabling the notifications from certain senders.
This kind of action still forces me to spare storage space for these messages, but there is a limit in maximum SMS messages that a device allows (which will cause older messages to be deleted).

I suggest to have a dedicated & limited storage space for the "blocked" SMS messages so that they won't affect the "normal" SMS messages.
That storage space is obviously lower (but the user is able to adjust its size).

This way, only legitimate SMS messages will populate the storage space for the "Valid SMS messages".

Thank you.

I suggest to bring back the option to block SMS by key words, so we don't get this spam messages in the first place.

The issue with that is by accidentally blocking a valid number. (Like when someone changes phone number.)

That's wht I offered a dedicated, separate storage space.

I never had problems with key words blocking.
To be honest, most of us use other platforms to chat with friends, so...

It isn't about chatting with friends.

It's about having illegitimate SMS messages to NOT overwrite legitimate SMS messages.

Mostly, SMS messages come from companies like insurance, or e-commerce etc. - which I prefer to keep as many as possible for long time, instead of having those spam SMS messages to overwrite them.

This is exactly my point.
If you get SMS only from companies and block other spam, you have plenty of storage to store old SMS.

But then another issue appears - as I wrote above:

Anyway, I'm in favor of allowing the user to choose to do whatever s/he desires.
So blocking SMS could be another feature to be requested.

Hello,

If I understood correctly, you are requesting that there be a separate storage space for blocked messages so that approved messages are not deleted.

But the messages app does not use a separate space from the device storage, once the storage on your device is full, new messages are not received until the storage is emptied.

If I did not understand your offer correctly I would be happy to receive more details about your offer.

Hi Iris,

I was misunderstood.
I'll try to clarify:

"you are requesting that there be a separate storage space for blocked messages"
Correct.
That storage space can be on the same storage device. (It doesn't have to be a different storage device.)

"... so that approved messages are not deleted."
Legit messages may be deleted or not (depending on the policy that the user chooses regarding what should be done when storage space is full.)
The point is - I don't want spam messages to have any effect on legitimate messages.
If spam messages are taking 80% of the SMS storage space, then legit messages barely have room and I'd need to delete SMS messages frequently.
But, if spam messages have dedicated & separate storage space, then legitimate SMS messages can rest in peace in their own space for long time.

There is also a separation of SMS messages, so that I won't have a mixed list of SMS messages - containing both legit and illegit messages.
So, there will be two lists, such that illegitimate SMS messages are "hidden" (cuz I don't really need to see them everytime that I open the default Messages app.)

As far as I'm concerned, I'd even prefer storing these illegitimate SMS messages ( = spam) in RAM memory because they don't deserve any permanent storage like flash memory (i.e. SD card).

"But the messages app does not use a separate space from the device storage"
That's cool.
There's a difference between "storage space" to "storage device".
I just don't want the spam SMS messages to use storage space which was intended for legitimate SMS messages.

"once the storage on your device is full, new messages are not received until the storage is emptied."
I think that the user should be able to choose the policy regarding what should be done once the storage space for SMS messages is full: Either overwrite older messages or discard all new measages until there is more space.
Furthermore, it would be nice to have the option to choose how much storage space is allocated for SMS messages.
After all, SMS messages are a key function in cellular devices and are used frequently for e-commerce, insurance, etc.

Thanks.

I suggest you turn off the definition of deleting old messages.
Messages do not take up much space and therefore there is no separate storage for the blocked messages.
To turn it off go to Messaging> Menu> Settings> More settings> Delete old messages.
