Dear Members,

Hope you all have enjoyed the big event. Here are some highlights for the devices introduced in Unpacked 2020. For each device, I will be posting a separate post. In this, we will take a closer look at Note 20 & Note 20 Ultra

1. Galaxy Note 20 & 20 Ultra

Introducing the new signature color for Galaxy: Mystic Bronze. A premium neutral tone with a satin texture that's as timeless as it is on-trend.

The displays have been upped to 6.9- and 6.7-inches for the Ultra and Note 20, respectively, which makes them larger than their predecessors. The Ultra gets a sharper and faster screen with WQHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Super AMOLED tech ensures high contrast and lush colors on both phones. The 120Hz display makes scrolling silky smooth and touch interactions incredibly responsive. Samsung is also using the brand-new version of Gorilla Glass that’s supposedly more resistant to scratches. It even intelligently detects what you’re doing and automatically shifts the refresh rate, saving on battery life, and giving you more time for fun. IP68water and dust resistance keeps your phone safe from splashes, drips, and up to 1.5 meters of water for around 30 minutes.

The Note 20 Ultra’s main sensor is 108MP and it’s aided by an IR focusing array. It has a 12MP telephoto camera capable of 5x optical zoom and a 12MP wide-angle camera & in the Note 20 with a 12MP main camera, 64MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP wide-angle camera. Both phones share the same 10MP selfie camera.

Samsung has improved latency on the S Pen and added a few more ways you can wave it about to control your phone remotely.  With a tap of the handy S Pen, your notations, and notes to self-transform into text you can copy and paste. And if you're writing at an angle or go off track, Auto straighten realigns your writing to keep your outlines tidy and organized. While you’re recording audio and you jot down a note, Audio Bookmark lines them up when you playback for easy reference. Expect bigger batteries no matter what Galaxy Note 20 you turn to. The standard Note 20 has a 4,300 mAh battery while the Ultra has a beefy 4,500 mAh power pack. Samsung promises fast charging that can deliver up to a 50% charge in 30 minutes. Both the device support fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.

The flagship Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is Samsung’s first phone with ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. In the short term, that technology will power Google’s new Nearby Share, letting you see others around you with Galaxy Note 20 Ultra or future Samsung UWB devices. Down the road, however, the UWB tech could power AR tech or even let you use your phone as a “digital key” that senses when you approach the door, according to Samsung. UWB technology uses very high frequency (up to 8,250 MHz) short-range wireless signals. At the same time, it runs on low-power tech so it won’t drain your phone or interfere with other wireless signals. To start with, you’ll be able to use Samsung’s UWB tech to share files with others who also have a UWB-capable handset. “By simply pointing Galaxy Note 20 Ultra to other UWB equipped Galaxy devices, Nearby Share will automatically list the people you’re facing on to the top of your sharing panel,” Samsung said. From there, you’d be able to send photos, videos, and other files over Bluetooth, WebRTC, or peer-to-peer WiFi, whichever works best under the circumstances. What’s more intriguing is what it’s capable of. “Future UWB functionality will also help you find things more accurately with AR technology and unlock your home as a digital key,” according to Samsung. During its Unpacked 2020 presentation, Samsung specifically cited Assa Abloy — the company that manufactures Yale and August Home smart locks. As detailed by the FiRa Consortium that manages UWB, it could also be used for indoor location tracking inside a mall, for instance. For now, it has limited use with Nearby Share, but it sounds like companies are just scratching the surface of UWB’s potential.

New integrations with Microsoft and Xbox improve the phone’s work and play capabilities. For example, Note 20 owners can link their phones to their Windows 10 PC to access mobile apps directly on the computer. This can be used to send messages, manage notifications, sync photos, and make phone calls on the PC. Further, users can add mobile apps to their Windows PC taskbar. Samsung says later this year, Note 20 owners will be able to run multiple apps side by side.
