Screenshots are a very innovative feature however they usually lack in the quality department. It's annoying when a screenshot looks grainy and nothing like the actual screen. But not anymore.

The reason that they lose quality is due to their format (jpg) but there's another format that that reserves more quality (png) and while it does mean the picture takes up more space, it honestly worth it.

To activate it:
  • Open settings
  • Navigate to "Advanced features"
  • Select "Screenshot"
  • Select "Format" and the select PNG

Now your screenshots should be looking clearer and more vivid.

Stay tuned for more😉

How do you know that changing that setting will make screenshots look better??

Well JPG is a lossy format meaning it compresses photos to save space thus quality is reduced

PNG is a lossless format meaning it doesn't compress photos thus it retains its quality when shared

The difference is minor on most devices, but with high-resolution displays (AMOLED and OLED), it's generally noticeable.

It can be useful for work purposes and documents. Apps like Gmail and Outlook don't compress their images. Also, whatsapp just introduced a new lossless HD format to send pictures. Given that it was made by Meta, we may see it on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads

A certain beta patch bought the feature but it was revoked. Perhaps it's coming in the near future.
