Ever wondered how Facebook suggests friends for you?

I have created a simple visualisation on how it happens by allowing Facebook access to your contacts. Now, try to think of how much Facebook knows about you..!
Note: I am not on any Social media platform myself, be it WhatsApp, X, Facebook or any of them.
Tip: Consider not allowing Facebook access to your location and contacts, as Facebook doesn't require those permissions for it's functionality.

If you don't allow Facebook to access your contacts, it will then automatically suggest a bunch of strangers even some from foreign countries. You can't stop the feature unfortunately, so you decide complete strangers? Or strangers that are mutual to your contacts?

@Jacques88 Even if you allow Facebook access to your contacts, you will still get total strangers suggested for you.
Like you said, you cannot stop that. But at least you can limit how much of your info spills to Facebook.
If you are already using Facebook, you are already hooked... there's those who are unaware of the darkside of the online world.

I don't get total strangers though, it's usually people I know and mutual friends. People who get total strangers uses Facebook to click on every phising link disguised as ads 🫣 basic Cybersecurity will get a lot of people very far and keep them safe yet they fear instead and stay away. Wheither you give them your email or number both are worth the same for them in today's age. Even here on Samsung members. You gave them your email 🤷 they share it, you install any app, your phone has your email as it is required 🤷 people need to get use to the fact that being online is not bad, they need to traffic safely

If you don't want to use it that's good. Give them proper Cybersecurity advice instead of "Now you try to think of how much FB knows about you" - this is inline with fear mongering.
