Galaxy watch 46MM lte not receiving text msg

Why don't I receive text messages on my Samsung Galaxy Watch-46MM LTE version (from my primary cell phone number) IF my cell phone is OFF. If I want to leave my cellphone at home and off, the watch will receive calls but no texts that are sent to my primary cellphone number. Any work around?

do not switchoff your phone . the watch will not work

But it receives call even if it is disconnected from phone. It has a message app pre-installed. I can send text messages. But can't receive.
