Improved RAW Image Editor
Introducing Photo Editor’s improved RAW Image Editor in Galaxy S25!
1. What is RAW Image Editor?
The RAW Image Editor is a RAW editing step exclusive to Photo Editor that allows you to edit RAW images directly. (See Figure 1 below)
(Figure 1. When you select the Edit button on the view screen of a RAW image, it goes to the RAW Image Editor and then the Photo Editor)
If you edit the RAW image directly, you can edit it more precisely by preserving the color or brightness of the image.
As you can see in Figure 2 below, even if you apply the same exposure of +15 to both a RAW image and a JPEG image, the results are different.
(Figure 2. Result comparison of a RAW image and JPEG image edited with the same values)
To provide these benefits of RAW image editing, we first brought the RAW image editor to One UI 6.1.1 (Samsung Galaxy Fold 6, Flip 6) and are back with an improved version in the One UI 7 update.
If you are curious about the improvements we have made to the RAW image editor, read on.
2. RAW Image Editor improvements for One UI 7
1) Added 6 new options to the Edit menu in the RAW Image Editor
We have introduced an additional of six menu options compared to One UI 6.1.1
Thus, in addition to the previous Highlight and Shadow menus, you can now edit RAW images in more detail with eight menus.

Denoise Adjust the intensity to remove noise in the image
※ The higher the intensity, the duller the noise, and there may be some loss of detail ※ What is noise? Unwanted by-products in photos due to brightness, etc. when taking photos |

If you find it difficult to adjust each menu in detail, you can also edit by pressing the AUTO button.
※ If you like the RAW image as it was taken, you can press the "Done" button without any editing to move to the Photo editor screen.
2) Added Histogram to RAW Image Editor
We have added a histogram to the RAW image editor that lets you see the changes in the brightness of the photo you are editing. Adjusting several menus and viewing the changes in the histogram can help you understand the appropriate brightness for the photos you are editing.
The more concentrated it is on the left side of the histogram, the more pixels are captured in the dark area.
Conversely, if it is more concentrated on the right, it means there are more pixels in the bright area.
3) FAQ & Tips for RAW Image Editor!
1) What formats does it support?
RAW images can be shot in Pro mode or Expert RAW on Samsung smartphone cameras.
※ For Pro mode, the photo format must be selected as RAW or RAW and JPEG in the Camera settings.
2) Are there any photos that are better when edited as RAW images?
As explained above, RAW images have the advantage of preserving the colors and brightness of the images without loss, allowing for more detailed editing.
Because of this advantage, they are useful in restoring details in dark areas compared to JPEG images. They provide a wider range of correction for dark or high-contrast images.
(Figure 4: Comparison of RAW and JPEG images with the same editing values applied)*
* You can edit as similarly as possible with a general JPEG, but RAW has its own unique editing charm, so please give it a try.
(Figure 5. Comparison of the results of editing RAW images and JPEG images)
3) Why does the brightness change when entering the RAW image editor?
It analyzes the details of the shadows and highlights based on the original RAW image, so it may look different from the colors you see in the gallery before editing.
4) I am not used to editing RAW images. Is there a way to enter the Photo editor right away even if it is a RAW image?
You can enter the Photo editor and change the RAW image editor setting to OFF in the Photo editor settings to enter the default Photo editor for a RAW image.
Whether you have already used the RAW image editor in One UI 6.1.1 or are seeing it for the first time in One UI 7, we hope that this introduction has made RAW image editing a step easier for you.
We hope you use the RAW Image Editor a lot!
