Introducing the new Motion Photo
The All New Motion Photo of the Galaxy S25 has been completely redesigned to improve your experience. This update allows you to record the lively moments before and after taking photos, and to view and edit them in a variety of ways. This maximizes the vividness of the moment of taking a photo, and allows users to record and view special moments in a richer way.
The following are the major improvements we have made.

※ The method to use Edit suggestion is explained in detail in link [4].

Filming
The Galaxy S25 has evolved from the previous “3 seconds of video saved before filming" method to one that saves 1.5 seconds before and after filming. This allows you to record not only the moment in the photo, but also the candid scenes before and after.
(Figure 2. “Motion Photo” toast pop-up during 1.5 seconds of recording after filming a Motion Photo)
※ How to turn on Motion Photo: Photo mode – Quick Settings - Press icon to turn on Motion Photo (Gray à Yellow) [1]
※ The shutter sound of Motion Photo is the same ding-dong sound that occurs when a video is saved.
We have also made it possible to choose the storage method in the Camera settings, giving you the flexibility to choose between two storage methods based on your preference.
(Figure 3. Select storage method for your Motion Photo video clip)
The Galaxy S25's Motion Photo uses VDIS (Video Digital Image Stabilization) technology [2] when saving video to minimize shaking caused by hand or camera movement. It analyzes the video and uses gyro sensor data to compensate for the shaking between frames to save smooth and clear videos. Even during fast continuous shooting, it guarantees a stable 3-second video, providing reliable results.
Supports various playback options
The Galaxy S25's Motion Photo doesn’t just play videos; it also offers a variety of viewing options:
You can see the viewing options when viewing a Motion Photo file in the Gallery.
(Figure 4. How to select playback mode: The View Motion Photo button will play at 60fps. To select the playback mode of the Motion Photo, click the box (2) in the upper right corner to see the playback mode list and select the mode you want.)
(Figure 5. How to save the playback mode you are viewing: If you select Boomerang, click More (1) and select Save As (2) to save the video with the boomerang effect.)
Video Splicing Function
We have added a function to splice multiple Motion Photo files into a single video easily. This allows you to weave special moments from your travels or daily life into a single story vlog for you to reminisce about in the future. We also provide a feature that allows you to select multiple Motion Photo files and batch extract each one so that you can extract and edit the footage of the Motion Photo. This lets you edit more freely.
Easy Storage Saving
Motion Photo provides the option to delete unnecessary video data from photos in one go, allowing you to manage storage space efficiently. Even if you always film in Motion Photo, you can easily delete the videos you don’t need and keep only the photos.
(Figure 6. Export / merge / delete video clips)
※ Tip: This function can be selected in the List view, but if a file other than a Motion Photo is selected, the menu (4) does not appear. So you can easily apply it by clicking Motion Photo in Search > Photo Type.
Editing: Best Face Feature - Capture your best face
A new Best Face feature has been added, which allows users to select the optimal facial expression they want and apply it to the photo using the seconds of video frame data saved in Motion Photo. This function uses AI technology based on Deep Learning to apply facial analysis and synthesis technology to find and recommend the optimal face in the video frame, or you can directly browse the video frames, and select and synthesize the face with which you are satisfied. Now, when you take a photo with Motion Photo, you can restore expressions you missed in group photos or important moments from the video frame, and get even more satisfactory results.
You can access Best Face via the following ways.
< Access via Editor > < Access via Edit Suggestion >
(Figure 7. How to access Best Face: There are two ways to access Best Face. You can either click the Editor Button on the Motion Photo file to enter, or click the “Select Best Face” recommendation button in the Edit Suggestion.)
(Figure 8. Best Face Editing: If you click the Tools (1) button in the Photo editor, a “Best Face” (2) button is created in the Motion Photo picture with a face, and clicking it will take you to the Best Face editing screen. Here, the first screen recommends faces that came out well in the Motion Photo video, and you can select a face and apply it to the photo. If you do not like the recommended face, you can change the face by clicking the “More” (3) button and navigating with the filmstrip in the Motion Photo video. Clicking the “Done” (5) button will save the photo with the changed face, and clicking the “Previous” (4) button will take you back to the previous recommendation screen.)

Figure 9 is the result of applying the best facial expression using Best Face on a photo taken with Motion Photo in which an unideal facial expression was captured.
