Tech TalkZoom 📱📲💻📞💡gained a huge traction in a short span of time as several people are working from home due to the coronavirus outbreak. The video conference app pulled in more than 200 million daily active users last month — significantly up from a maximum of 10 million users previously. However, despite its skyrocketing growth, Zoom has been under fire over security concerns. From schools and officials to various governments, people have been asked to refrain from using the app. The Indian government 🇮🇳also recently warned its officials about the Zoom. Also, some of its users have alleged that the app sends data to third parties located in China.
Zooms key features such as being able to video-conference with up to 100 people👥 for free (up to 500 participants in paid plans) and recording support make the zoom app a great solution for virtual meetings. The app is also available across platforms and can enable video calling through mobile devices. But if you don't trust Zoom🙅 and are look for capable alternatives, you're in the right place.💁
- Up to 100 participants👥
- Unlimited timing for each meeting👥
- Call-in for audio📞
It works without requiring an account and supports up to 50 participants — all for free. You'll also get features such as the ability to record calls, blur background before entering the call, and screen sharing.
- Record the call for up to 30 days💾
- Can blur the background (if you have the app)
- Share presentations
The free version brings unlimited chat and search, group and one-on-one audio and video calling, and 10GB of team file storage along with 2GB of personal file storage per person. If you already have an Office 365 account, you'll get real-time collaboration with Office apps for Web, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
- With MS Teams, you can meet with teams of 10 or 10,000👥. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organisation or go big with live events.
connect with up to 50 participants at once. The platform is popular amongst gamers, though you can use it as a tool to communicate with your office team or some friends. You can also download its mobile app to connect with your contacts using your smartphone. There are also features to share your screen or perform voice calls. Just like other free alternatives to Zoom, Discord provides video conferencing at no cost.
You can make video calls with up to 10 👥participants or chat with up to 150 👥participants at once.Google also lets you host video calls or talk with your colleagues through text messages using a mobile device. Further, being a Google product, Hangouts just needs your Gmail account to let you get started. If you are open to pay, you'll be able to increase the limit for video calls to up to 25 participants as well.
- Up to 10 participants👥
- Voice conversations can have up to 150 participants🗣️
An advance web conferencing system that comes with international capabilities making it an ideal choice for companies that have multiple international locations and professionals who have contracts with international clients and colleagues. The software has a friendly interface and starting a meet can be done in a few moments.
The same flexibility and simplicity apply to your pricing system and the many integration options like Podium, Zapier, Microsoft Office 365, Slack, LMS Agreement and many other applications.
This app features state-of-the-art end-to-end encryption (powered by the open-source Signal Protocol) which keeps your conversations secure. Signal can't read your messages or listen to your calls, and no one else can either. Privacy isn’t an optional mode. Share text, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs and files for free. Signal uses your phone's data connection so you can avoid SMS and MMS fees.
Another “you probably haven’t heard of it” videoconference app, Jitsi Meet is an open-source platform that lets you easily meet online by simply navigating to the site and clicking on “Go.” If you’re more technically inclined, you can build your own via Jitsu Videobridge, but most people will be happy with the quick web version, which offers many features found in more well-known apps, such as chat, session recording (to Dropbox), and the ability to “kick out” unruly participants.
- Up to 75 participants (up to 35 for the best experience)👥
- Public or private chat🤳
- Can blur the background (currently in beta)
- Integrates with Slack, Google Calendar📆, and Office 365🕞
If you’re not a company, you may not have heard of StarLeaf; it’s a platform for large companies — the kind where they don’t quote a price on their website; you have to call a salesperson. But it is now offering its basic video and messaging product free of charge for those trying to keep in touch during the pandemic.
- Up to 20 participants👥
- Forty-six minutes for each meeting
If you're looking for a more lively way to talk with friends, Houseparty is the way to go. It's similar to Zoom in the way that it allows each user to see all other people in the call, but there's a maximum of eight people allowed in each call. Aside from regular video calling, the Houseparty app allows you and your friends to play different games together, including Trivia, Heads Up, and Quick Draw, so it's ideal for casual get-togethers.
Zoho Meeting is completely browser-based web conferencing solution that lets you host free online meetings and webinars, for a team meeting, presentations, and more. Lock your meetings to conduct important discussions online with no intrusions. Zoho Meeting helps maintain your privacy by offering all participants' cameras in default disabled mode. In Zoho Meeting, all transmissions are encrypted with industry-standard SSL/128-bit AES protocols.
Duo is specifically tailored towards video conferencing. It strips away the more well-rounded features of Hangouts for a more simplistic approach. You can still host a conference call across all of your devices, including your preferred web browser and Google’s own Nest Hub, but you can only connect up to 12 users,👥 meaning that this app might be best for chatting with family members and friends🙂. One interesting feature is the ability to send video messages.
While Zoom and Hangouts are decidedly better for work meetings, this app is perfect for catching up with your less tech savvy family members.
Whereby’s free version is rather limited compared to some others mentioned here; it gives you the use of a single meeting room with up to four participants, along with the ability to lock rooms (participants have to “knock” to gain entrance). Each room has its own URL that you get to choose, which is great — assuming that nobody else has already taken that name. (For example, I tried whereby.com/testroom and found it was already taken.) But it also has a chat function, lets you share a screen, mute or eject users, and has some fun emoji. If you have more people in mind, the Pro version (Paid) offers up to 12 participants per room in up to three meeting rooms.
- Up to four participants 👥in free version
- Screen-sharing📱📱
- YouTube integration🌀
- Ability to “lock” rooms🔐
What to do🙇
No one of these video chat apps is perfect, but they can each be used for different purposes. Fancy a chat with multiple Apple-using friends or family? FaceTime is ideal. Got a big party situation on the go? It has to be Houseparty.
I’m hoping Jitsi becomes more stable as the service grows, because I like its ethos and it’s pretty secure. Signal is my many people's favourite, but doesn't support group chat.
Facebook Messenger , Whatsapp Are other Alternatives.
WhatsApp’s new update now allows 8 users 👥in audio, video calls.
Apple's FaceTime video calling tool supports 32 people.👥
Facebook Messenger can support up to 50 people👥 in a call.
Zoom releases 5.0 update with security and privacy improvements

There is also a change.org petition to remove zoom.
