Tech TalkHey Samsung Members!
I’ve been exploring Samsung smartphone cameras for almost 8 years now, and during this journey, I’ve experimented a lot with both Pro Mode and the default Photo Mode.
Over time, I’ve realized that my shooting style naturally leans towards Pro Mode, and I wanted to share why.
Why I Prefer Using Pro Mode
1.Complete Control Over the Camera
Pro Mode gives me full manual control over:
- ISO
- Shutter Speed
- White Balance
- Focus
- Exposure
Instead of the phone deciding how my image should look, I decide.
This helps me capture the scene exactly the way my eyes see it, not how the software interprets it.
2.More Data for Post-Processing (RAW Advantage)
One of the biggest reasons I use Pro Mode is that it allows me to shoot in RAW format.
- RAW images retain maximum image data
- No heavy internal processing
- No forced sharpening or aggressive HDR
- More dynamic range to recover highlights & shadows
This gives me massive flexibility while editing in apps like Lightroom. I can:
- Recover blown highlights
- Bring back shadow details
- Adjust colors naturally
- Avoid artificial sharpening
The image feels more real and organic.
3.Pro Mode Is Meant for Editing Later
In my opinion, Pro Mode should be used only when you know you are going to edit the image later.
If you shoot in Pro Mode and don’t edit, the image might look flat or less vibrant compared to default mode — and that’s completely normal. It’s like a digital negative.
Pro Mode = Capture now, craft later
When Do I Use Default Photo Mode?
Even though I love Pro Mode, I still use normal Photo Mode in certain situations.
1.Click & Post Moments
If I know I’m not going to edit the picture later and just want a quick social media post, I use default mode.
Samsung’s processing is:
- Sharp
- Vibrant
- Social-media ready
Perfect for quick sharing.
2. HDR Scenes (Sky + Foreground)
Default Photo Mode is very helpful in strong HDR situations, like:
- Bright sky + darker foreground
- Sunset scenes
- High contrast landscapes
In Pro Mode, to get similar results, I would need to:
- Shoot multiple exposures
- Stack them manually in post
That takes time. Default mode does smart HDR instantly.
At the end of the day, understanding when to use each mode has completely transformed my mobile photography. Pro mode is for the craft and the edit, while Default mode is for convenience and instant HDR computation.
There is no “better” mode as it depends on your purpose.
A.Use Pro Mode when:
- You want creative control
- You plan to edit later
- You want maximum image data
- You prefer natural results
B. Use Default Mode when:
- You want quick results
- You’re not editing
- You need instant HDR
- You’re a click-and-post person
After 8 years of using Samsung cameras, I’ve realized:
The more you understand light, the more powerful Pro Mode becomes.
What about you all? Are you strictly "point and shoot," or do you love experimenting in Pro mode? Let me know in the comments!
