Tablets sales have been consistently declining over the past few years and the market is expected to get even more challenging due to foldable smartphones. For Android tablets, the situation is much worse as compared to iPads but that is not stopping Samsung from announcing newer tablets. After launching the entertainment-focussed Galaxy Tab S5e last month, Samsung has launched an updated version of its Galaxy Tab A with 4G LTE and support for S Pen.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab A uses an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1200. From its official listing, the Galaxy Tab A 8″ appears to be aimed at students and comes with middling processing capabilities. The tablet is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7904 octa-core SoC, which also powers the mid-range smartphone Samsung Galaxy M20. The chipset is coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card.

The Galaxy Tab A 8″ features an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera. Based on the information sourced from the firmware packages (courtesy of XDA Recognized developer deadman96385), the camera also supports AR emoji and stickers, live bokeh, live blur, and live beauty modes. The rear camera also supports video recording at Full HD. Meanwhile, there is no fingerprint scanner on this tablet, nor is there any mention of unlocking through facial recognition.
