Hi,

I updated mt tablet S8 two days ago, and since the auto rotate is not working. I tried the safe mode to chech if it is app related problem but still it wos not working. Now to rotate the screen I use one of the video apps I have to enforce it to rotate. Honestly it is quite frustrating to do so evey time I want to rotate the screen. And yes I already toggled the auto rotate in the toolbar. Also I already used the diagnostic to check the gyroscope sensor and it is working fine.

Hi,

I think you should check IF your tab's sensors are working.

Open your Phone (dialer) app. Type in the following code: *#0*#

Check in sensors, especially Gyro and accelerometer

Thank you for reaching out regarding the auto-rotate issue on your Galaxy Tab S8 after updating to One UI 8.0 / Android 16. We understand how frustrating it can be to lose the convenience of screen rotation.

Since you have already verified the gyroscope sensor through diagnostics and tested in Safe Mode, the issue may be related to a software setting or update bug. Please try the following steps:

  1. Reset All Settings:
Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset All Settings.
This will reset system settings including display and accessibility options without deleting your personal data.
  2. Check for Additional Updates or Patches:
Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.
Sometimes post-update patches are released to fix minor software bugs.
  3. Toggle Auto-Rotate in Settings:
Settings > Display > Auto-Rotate Screen > turn off, then turn on again.
  4. Check Accessibility Settings:
Settings > Accessibility > Interaction and Dexterity > ensure “Auto-rotate screen” or related rotation lock options are not overriding the toolbar toggle.
  5. Clear Cache Partition (Optional):
    Turn off the tablet.
Press and hold Volume Up + Power buttons until recovery menu appears.
Select “Wipe Cache Partition” using the volume buttons, confirm with Power, then reboot.
