first I noticed the same. but after using several times u can feel softbutton position is perfect . because we can't manage the softbutton and hardbutton At a time using left hand.
you have to press the rocker only one time after that you can adjust volume by soft buttons, now because it is on right side i have to use my both hands. if it is shifted to LHS i will have to use one hand so the convenience pf handling the device will be easy if its on LHS
