Why this always happens that once Samsung release a phone and after about one & half year, Samsung behaves like that phone doesn't exist anymore. No update, no news, no talks but only promotes its fresh phones. Samsung should give priorty to the people who purchased its phones and hoped for a good experience. But Samsung simply forgets them, their phones and their hard earned money. Most of the people can't afford new phones every year and were stuck with same phone for may be 5 years. As such, Samsung should be giving OS & feature updates for at least 4 years.

Android 10 is running on devices and I am stuck with Android O :(

Giving regular updates and features may become costly for Samsung but then why to show only one side of the coin?

Solution: I'd recommend Samsung to make only 3 or 4 phones and not more. And then stick with them for ever like Apple do with iPhones.

Yes you are right but every company is doing same with their old devices......there is only thing we can do is buying ios devices instead of android devices

android never do allow support more than 2 years monthly ( maximum ) and upto maximum 3 years security regular support in non google device , exception are there . if samsung or any other Smartphones based on android will provide the way you said than GOOGLE WILL DIRECTLY CANCEL THE ANDROID LICENSING WITH SAMSUNG or vi versa and all updates and play store supports will be permanently stopped and You will always see a message

YOUR DEVICE IS NOT AUTHORISED etc messages while using update push or play store etc

Cause android is controlled by Google not by samsung or any other company

Android is an open source project and why would Google disallow a company to give updates? Any how, even if you're right then let's talk about 3 years of updates.

opensource dpes not means that no one has its RIGHTS CONTROL

opensource means free to develope using source not the digital and property rights

REDHAT EL OS also a linux based opensource os but only IBM and its subsidiary has its RIGHTS of digital control and software rights

read GPL , CC and MIT license terms on Opensource softwares ..

last incident google banned a giant smartphone company from giving them updates for violation of their android policy .. i think you had that news last few months back


if so than all websites and webapps are opensource .. so without permission why can't a media streaming company can't stream music from youtube music or from spotify etc


you need to learn FOSS ( FREE AND OPENSOURCE SOFTWARE ) and how its works

OPENSOURCE does not mean without creator or controlling body permission you can use it for commercial purpose

Lastly

DIGITAL RIGHTS AND PATENT OF ANDROID OS IS IN HANDS OF GOOGLE AND ANDROID AOSP TEAM . so its upto them to cancel or continue ANDROID LICENSING FOR HARDWARES for various companies

If You are upto updates than in present world android smartphones are worst choice , cause google has no mechanism for universal updates and support because amdroid core mechanism is not capable of using a universal update mechanism

any user can put zip file inside UNIFORM SYSTEM RESOURCES file system and reboot the device it will update

temp file system holds OTA and with restart it will get updated , vendor designed system app to download updates from their build servers etc etc there are so many

so here after android became most non mature os

whereas iOS has a strict universal update mecganism , universal media mechanism, universal security mechanism whether its on phone or ipod or watch or macbook


for longer support at present only iOS devices give you such user vendor partnership

Oneplus actually skipped Oreo 8.1 ,3 and 3T was stuck with 8.0 for quite some time before it got 9.0 after a long time. If oneplus gives android 10 for 5 and 5T then that's something people can look forward to.
