Hello Friends,

Samsung going to invest record amounts to get the semiconductor chips in year 2021 & beyond.

Samsung is soon to be expected to invest 35 trillion won in the development & expansion of its semiconductor fabrication facilities. That sum, for reference, is approx. £23 billion at the time of writing (£22,787,540,230), very similar in scale to the UK government's considerable investment in Covid-19 track and trace.

Samsung's investment will be split and go to various facilities across various countries.

Some of the investments will deliver new capacity in the current year but bigger, newer projects might not go online until 2023 or so.

In recent reports, Samsung is considering a 2nd plant in Austin, Texas for 3nm and sub 3nm chips, but it isn't clear if that project is part of the round of investments outlined for 2021. These funds will be earmarked for the next year.

That's all in this news post. See you soon in my next thread.

Thanks,
Dinesh
