I never used a password. I used the thumbprint.

You cannot typically set up fingerprint unlock on a phone without also setting up a PIN, pattern, or password as a backup of some sort. You most probably just forgot the password

I did not forget the password. I didn't set up a password. I used the thumbprint.

You say that you use your fingerprint to unlock your phone, since the phone was restarted (or even switched off in general) when it comes back on, you need to enter the screenlock password that you use when it doesn't ask you for fingerprints.

Fingerprint unlocking requires a password before you set it up. That's the password you use to unlock the phone, then it will go back to unlocking via fingerprints.

If you still can't get in, then you'll have to format the device and then unlock it with the password of the Gmail account the phone is linked to.
