With so much going on in our lives, and so many things to distract us, sleep can often be the last thing we feel like doing. When lying in bed at night, there always seems to be another email you need to send, Netflix episode you have to watch or podcast you can't stop listening to, and before you know it you’ve got to be up at the crack of dawn to do it all over again in the morning.

Yet lack of sleep is a serious issue and can cause a whole host of mental and physical problems, from weight gain to increased risk of heart disease and depression. And not only that, but getting good sleep has been proven to improve your concentration, productivity and athletic performance.

So instead of counting sheep every night, we’ve laid out five great ways in which your Galaxy smartphone can be used to get you sleeping like a baby before you know it.

1. See the pattern

The Samsung Health app is a great way to track all aspects of your health, from your activity to your diet. But one of its lesser known features is its sleep tracker, which you can use to measure your sleeping patterns over a long period of time.

By building a long-term picture of your sleeping patterns, you can understand what might be affecting it negatively and positively in the long run and act accordingly.

2. Feeling blue?

If you turn on the blue light filter on your Galaxy S20, it changes the colour of the display to reduce blue light, meaning less eye strain and a better sleep. Head into settings > display > blue light filter to change the times and the strength of the effect.

3. How deep is your sleep?

If you hook up your smartphone to your Galaxy Watch Active, the Samsung Health sleep tracker can even measure movements like the quality of your Rapid Eye Movement (REM) during sleep.

It does this by measuring your heart rate and you can set it up to measure either every 10 minutes to save battery or have it measuring continuously to give you a more accurate picture. The Samsung Health app will then give you a breakdown of your REM sleep patterns when you wake up in the

morning, so you can see exactly how good your night’s rest was.

4. Calm yourself

5.PNG

Calm is an app that does exactly what it says on the tin. By providing great wellness and meditation tips as well as guided walkthroughs, it allows you to forget the hustle and bustle and get into a relaxed headspace. The app can also be linked up with the Samsung Health app, to give you personalised advice on how to reduce stress, insomnia and anxiety based on your data. It can even measure your stress levels before and after a meditation session, so you can see just how effective it's been.

5. Get active!

If you feel like you have too much energy at night, one of the best ways to get rid of that is to hit the gym and squat, plank or deadlift your way towards sleeping like a log.

With the Galaxy Watch you can track all your activity in one place and see just how hard you’ve worked, while your Galaxy Buds will keep you motivated with your favourite music, even during the sweatiest and most hectic workouts you can think of
