Galaxy Z Fold- Samsung teases the Galaxy Z Fold 7 as its thinnest, lightest, and most advanced foldable device yet.
- The upcoming foldable could rival the Oppo Find N5 with its slimness.
- But that slim design might come at the expense of battery life, with Samsung possibly sticking to the same 4,400mAh cell as Z Fold 6.
In its announcement, Samsung notes how its engineers have refined the Galaxy Z series with every generation, making them thinner, lighter, and durable. And this year, "that journey reaches a new milestone. The newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet — meticulously crafted and built to last."
The accompanying teaser video provides a brief glimpse of the Z Fold 7's thinner design.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 12.2mm when folded and 6.1mm in an unfolded state. While that's slimmer than the Z Fold 5, it falls short of other Chinese foldables. For comparison, the Oppo Find N5 currently holds the title of the world’s slimmest book-style foldable, measuring just 8.9mm when folded and an impressive 4.21mm when unfolded.
Rumors suggest that Samsung will challenge this crown with its upcoming Fold 7. As per a leak, the Galaxy foldable could measure just 4.54mm thick when unfolded and 9mm when folded. Even if it doesn’t undercut the Oppo, the Z Fold 7 could still become the thinnest foldable available in the US, beating the likes of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the OnePlus Open.
Samsung apparently plans to utilize AI to extract more runtime from the tiny battery. But that may not make much of a difference, especially with the power-hungry Snapdragon 8 Elite running the show.
