Galaxy SHey Samsung Family! 🇦🇪
If you’re like me and love pushing the Galaxy S26 Ultra (or S25 Ultra) to its limits, you know that shooting in 8K or using the new APV (Advanced Professional Video) codec eats up internal storage faster than a Dubai summer melts ice cream! 🫠
I’ve found the ultimate workflow for creators and power users: Recording directly to external storage. No more "Storage Full" pop-ups mid-shoot!
Why you should try this:
Zero Internal Lag: Keep your phone's memory light and fast.
Instant Editing: Just unplug the drive from your phone and plug it into your laptop. No cables, no Quick Share waiting times.
Extended Shoots: Perfect for long vlogs, university projects, or family events.
🛠️ How to Set It Up (Step-by-Step)
For One UI 8.5 & Above:
Open the Camera App.
Tap the Settings (Gear icon).
Scroll to the Video section.
Toggle on "Save videos to external storage."
For One UI 8.0 & Below:
Go to Camera Settings > Camera Assistant.
Enable "Save videos to external storage." (Note: If you don't see Camera Assistant, grab it from the Galaxy Store!)
⚠️ Pro-Tips for a Smooth Experience
The "Speed" Factor: Don't use a cheap thumb drive. For 4K/8K, I highly recommend a Portable SSD (like the Samsung T7 or T9). Standard flash drives might cause the camera to "freeze" while saving.
Format is Key: Format your drive to exFAT on a PC first. If it's FAT32, your video will cut off at 4GB!
Check the Icon: Once enabled, look for the USB-C icon in the top-right of your viewfinder. It will even show you how much recording time you have left on the drive! ⏳
A Quick Warning!
Make sure your cable connection is tight. If the drive disconnects while you're recording, the footage won't save to the phone—it will be lost forever. Stay steady! 🛡️
Have you guys tried the new APV codec yet? Let me know in the comments if you have any questions about external recording!

Galaxy SWhen using a Type-C USB drive with your Galaxy, it’s all about convenience and portability. It’s perfect for quick file transfers or clearing up space on the go.
However, when you compare it to a Portable SSD (like the Samsung T7 or T9), there are a few key differences:
Speed: SSDs are significantly faster, especially for moving large 4K videos or high-res photo albums. While a USB drive might peak at around 100-400MB/s, a good SSD can hit over 1,000MB/s. Stability: SSDs are better suited for 'working' directly off the drive (like editing a video straight from the storage). Durability: SSDs generally handle heat and long data transfers much better than small flash drives.
For quick document backups, a Type-C USB is king. For heavy media and speed, the SSD wins every time! 🚀"
